General:
Perennial herb from scaleless stem-bases with many bulblets; stems 10-20 cm tall, glandular-hairy to long-hairy with some glands.
Leaves:
Basal leaves 1 to 3, often withered by time of flowering, kidney-shaped, 1.5-2.5 cm wide, coarsely lobed, the stalks slender; stem leaves similar, 3 to 5, the stalks reduced; stipules of stem leaves enlarged, especially upwards.
Flowers:
Inflorescence a 2- to 10-flowered terminal cluster, somewhat flat-topped; petals violet, occasionally almost white, 6-9 mm long, spoon-shaped to oblanceolate, slightly unequal, one often lobed; calyces narrowly bell-shaped, joined partly to ovary, 4.5-6 mm long, the lobes linear-lanceolate, about length of rest of calyx, nearly erect, the tips spreading; stamens 5, opposite the calyx lobes.
Fruits:
Capsules, 4-6 mm long; seeds brown, about 0.5 mm long, warty.
